Queer Futures Presents...

[in-person workshop]

‘Spooky Writing at a Distance’ is an experimental writing workshop presented by Queer Futures Lab, a feminist, sci-fi writing and performance community.

“Spooky action at a distance” famously describes the mysterious quantum phenomena of two particles interacting instantaneously with each other over a distance. In this session we visit well known quantum experiments that then inspire a series of spooky polyvocal writing practices that explore “quantum queerness”, entanglement and memory. We inhabit the properties of waves, particles and the absurd simultaneity in-between to guide new ways of co-writing feminist speculative fiction.

How do our stories change when memories collide and enfold on one another? Do our behaviors become distorted under measurement and observation?

The duration of the workshop is between 2.5-3 hours and includes an introduction to Queer Futures Lab, our practices, a series of interactive writing exercises, performative readings and discussion. Come curious and ready to participate.

Attendance is donation-based and directly supports Underlab Berlin and the Queer Futures facilitators.

Event documentation:

“All this ‘quantum weirdness’ (the display of an increasing array of uncanny phenomena) is actually ‘quantum queerness,’ and I don’t mean simply strange. Q is for queer – the un/doing of identity. Quantum dis/continuity is at the crux of this im/possible, im/passible, trans/formation.”
